This Cumitech provides guidance on the necessary criteria (such as accuracy, precision, relevance, cost, instrumentation, and ease of performance) required as new laboratory tests are verified for clinical use and established tests are validated for testing process and consistency of results. The guidelines presented apply equally to simple single-reagent tests and the most complex of instruments generating a variety of analytic results and interpretations. The focus of this volume is on the common qualitative and semiquantitative test procedures performed in the clinical microbiology laboratory.
